The joys of home ownership

We have a problem with animals. Not Mochi. The wild kind.

During our first year in the house we had an ant infestation and a bird problem. The bird problem is actually really entertaining and may be the subject of another blogpost at a later date.

Last year we saw a mouse scury across our counter. I plugged up the holes with steel wool and chicken wire and we've been mouse free.....until.....

Friday, we found a mouse turd in the closet. Eff.

As of Sunday evening, we have removed 3 mice from our house. We have narrowed down the points of entry and are currently stuffing towels under the doors to help ensure a "tight" seal to the outside world.

Unfortunately, Mochi is not a mice catching Shih Tzu.

You could always get a kitty!

Yech, that makes my skin crawl. Luckily I haven't had anything as a real problem yet though somehow random spiders, yellow jackets, and ants get in every so often. Not too often though. Good luck!

yeah that cat thing isn't actually a bad idea if mochi doesn't mind! at our old house, we had mice problems, but as soon as we got shadow, they all went away. my mom says it has something to do with the way a cat smells. shadow was the laziest, fattest cat ever and he never caught any. but just by him being there, we were mice-free!

Yep, my mom had a mouse problem recently. I figured out where they were coming from (a closed-off bedroom in the basement). We opened the door and let the cat find her way in there, and since then she's been presenting Mom with a series of dead mice. Problem solved. (And chubby, lazy indoor cat is getting some exercise.)

"I would try placing live or electronic traps right inside the points of entry instead of just trying to keep them out since they will just find another way in. I use a few different types of traps, but I've heard good things about the new Victor Multi-Kill ones. Traps like these can catch around 10 at a time, so you won't have to keep changing it out.
Here's the trap I was talking about:
