Bon Odori or Obon is a Buddhist festival held to honor the spirits of people who have passed away. It's held during the summer and is a bit of a Japanese custom/tradition....even if you aren't buddhist.
So, once a year I dress up in a kimono or yukata (a lighter, sometimes cotton version of a Kimono). People dance in a big circle and everyone knows the moves (there aren't many moves to remember). It's a smidge harder than the macarena...but most people catch on pretty fast. There's lots of delicious food and a ton of Asian people. In Seattle, they even made up a dance to honor Ichiro. Sometimes you get props like fans or Japanese maracas or a towel. Or sometimes you just use your hands.
There you have it. Random stuff I do.
